This study was conducted to inform the importance of preventing zika virus (ZIKV) infection by presenting various ocular complications of ZIKV infection. ZIKV was first detected in the human body in 1952, and has attracting worldwide attention since it caused an explosive infection in South America, especially Brazil, in 2016. It has been reported that 80% of adults infected with ZIKV are asymptomatic and can be vertically transmitted through pregnant women, resulting in microcephaly and congenital ocular disorders in newborns. Although the eye is an immune-privileged organ that has an intrinsic blood-retinal barrier and protects the eye, it also serves as a viral reservoir, drawing attention to a recent academic announcement that ZIKV causes ocular complications. The route of transmission of ZIKV is being actively studied, but there is no conventional vaccine and no specific treatment so far. Thus, prevention is the only way to block the infection. In particular, since ZIKV infection has a risk of having potential parameters through fetal infection, it is determined that continuous monitoring by government authorities and local autonomy is necessary, so we would like to present this paper.
